Year 5 Learning
Academic Year 2025-2026
PE
In PE, Year 5 have been working hard to build on their strength, agility, and coordination skills. The children have taken part in a range of fun fitness stations designed to challenge them and help improve their overall fitness. They’ve shown great determination and teamwork as they push themselves to reach new personal bests!
Science
As part of our Science topic, Space and the Earth, Year 5 had an incredible experience inside an inflatable planetarium! The children were amazed as they gazed up at the stars, planets and constellations all around them. They discovered fascinating new facts about our solar system and beyond — it truly brought our space learning to life!
Art
In Art, Year 5 have explored one-point perspective to discover how to bring two dimensional drawings to life. The children have produced some fantastic drawings using perspective with their understanding of the vanishing point and horizon line. They have also tried out different shading techniques to create texture and dimension in their drawings.
French
This half term, our Year 5 pupils have been very lucky to have some special visitors from The Perse helping to teach French!
The children have absolutely loved learning with them — practising their speaking, trying out new phrases, and having lots of fun along the way. It’s been a brilliant way to build on everything we do in our weekly French lessons!
French Fun at School!
At Queen Edith, pupils enjoy their French lessons through fun, interactive games and activities.
Everyone gets involved — practising new words, building confidence in speaking, and discovering the joy of learning another language.
It’s wonderful to see such enthusiasm for French!
Academic Year 2024-2025
In the spring, as part of our science unit on animal and plant life cycles, we dissected a flower to study its anatomy
We thoroughly enjoyed reading quietly for an hour and a half during our sponsored quiet reading morning!
As part of our Ancient Egypt topic, we visited the Fitzwilliam Museum, where an expert teacher guided us, and we had the opportunity to create sketches.
As part of our healthy school ethos, we participated in a fun workshop about healthy smoothies. Instead of using electricity, we rode a bike to generate the energy needed to blend the fruit. It was an exciting experience, and the smoothies were absolutely delicious!
As part of our Ancient Egypt topic, we mummified real tomatoes to recreate the process of mummification, just as the Ancient Egyptians did to preserve bodies after death.
We enjoyed 45 minutes of quiet time to support our well-being. With a variety of activities to choose from, some of us especially loved working on a puzzle in peaceful silence.
