Nursery Learning
Academic Year 2024-2025
Spring 2
This half term, children in Bumblebee class have been learning the story of Mr Gumpy’s outing by John Burningham. They have been learning about different types of boats and have made their own boats with 2D shapes and with small boxes. They also enjoyed using large boxes and other materials to create boats in our deconstructed role play area.
The children enjoyed learning about the celebration of Mother’s Day and they worked hard to learn a poem. Mums, Aunties and Grandmas all enjoyed a special celebration when the children recited their poem and gave their cards and hand decorated daffodil posies as a gift. We have enjoyed a spring walk on our school field and have talked together about signs of spring.
Spring
Caterpillars and Butterflies
Children in nursery have been learning about caterpillars and butterflies. We all enjoyed a walk to our school flower garden to look for insects. The children enjoyed learning new facts from information books and we also watched a clip that showed the lifecycle of a butterfly. Children used water and brushes in the garden to carefully draw parts of the lifecycle. We enjoyed a sharing time with the Reception classes in the hall and the children shared a song they had learned all about a tiny caterpillar.
Goldilocks
This half term the children in nursery have been learning the story of Goldilocks and the three bears. Everyone has really enjoyed the story. We have been painting pictures of three bears with different sized brushes, we made our own porridge and explored porridge oats with different sized bowls. We have enjoyed a nature walk and have been learning about more and less. The children have enjoyed re-telling the story with props and we are very grateful to our families for sending us videos of the children re-telling the story at home.
Lunar New Year
Children in Bumblebee class have enjoyed learning about the Lunar New Year. They have made decorations, shared stories and information books, used chopsticks to eat orange segments and watched a dragon dance. The children played drums and cymbals and took turns to take part in our own dragon dance at nursery. We were also very grateful to welcome one of our parents who came to talk to the children about their own Lunar New Year celebrations.
Autumn 2
Our talk for writing book this half term was the traditional tale of The Little Red Hen. Children in nursery have enjoyed a range of learning experiences around farm animals, playing farm games together, exploring flour and making their own play dough, cornflour gloop and bread rolls. They have enjoyed nature walks on our school field and have collected leaves for printing in autumn colours and leaf threading.
Children enjoyed conker rolling and mixing paint for our autumn display. We have been planting bulbs in our garden and everyone has planted their own daffodil bulb and decorated their pot to take home for the holidays. Our term finished with our Christmas celebration.
The children learnt songs and poems to share with families. They re-wrote their own version of the Little Red Hen and in their story, they made a “rainbow, raisin, chocolate cake!” The children enjoyed making banana muffins to share with our audience and they have been busy making cards and decorations. Santa’s Grotto and our nursery party provided a very exciting end to our term!
Our new nursery children have settled in well. They are becoming familiar with our nursery routine and starting to make new friends. The children have enjoyed the warm weather and have been spending a lot of time outdoors in our nursery garden. They have enjoyed bikes, water play, building in our loose parts play area and cooking and creating in our mud kitchen.
Our “Talk for writing” book this half term has been “Dear Zoo” by Rod Campbell. The children have enjoyed learning the story and learning about different animals. We have been talking about sizes and measuring each other. We have enjoyed a range of pet and animal stories and the children have enjoyed our deconstructed role play vets and small world animal play.
We are delighted that everyone has settled so well.
