Year 3 Learning

Science

In Science, Year 3 have been exploring the fascinating rock cycle. To help bring their learning to life, the children used Starburst sweets to represent the three different types of rock: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. Through squashing, layering and heating (with warm hands!), pupils modelled how rocks are formed and changed over time. This fun, hands-on activity helped the children to better understand the processes involved in the rock cycle and made their learning both memorable and engaging.

PE

Year 3 have been taking their learning outdoors with some exciting cross-curricular orienteering lessons. Using maps and directional skills, pupils navigated the school grounds to locate checkpoints, where they completed activities linked to our science topic on rocks and soils. Along the way, children identified different types of rocks and applied their knowledge in a practical and engaging way. This hands-on experience not only developed their geography and PE skills, but also deepened their understanding of how rocks and soils are found and used in the world around us.
